You probably know me best for my academic prowess. But, dear website visitor, I am so much more than beautifully-formatted Word documents and eloquent prose.

Let me disclose a little-known fact: I come from a family of accountants.

While I’m sure that many of you are now shaking your heads in pity, wondering if there is any pastoral care you could provide to this poor soul, rest assured that I am fine. It has taken many years to come to terms with my familial associations, but I have come to accept them and even embrace aspects of my numerically-biased genes.

I just… love a good spreadsheet.

On that note, here are some of the administrative jobs I’ve had that aren’t related to academia or books.

LU Arts

Loughborough, United Kingdom

Finance Administrator
July 2017 – August 2018

Project Administrator
April 2017 – July 2017

In this role, I monitored the financial happenings of the Loughborough University arts centre. The centre’s offerings include things like art and music lessons, free events for students (open mic nights, poetry slams, crafting tutorials, etc.), and a massive international Loughborough University/general world arts programme. In particular, I handled things like expenses, earnings, casual work claims, petty cash, and attendance tracking.

When I was in the office alone, I liked to roll around on my wheelie chair and listen to Spotify’s ’90’s Boy Bands’ playlist really loudly.

Toronto, Canada

Administrator
November 2015 – September 2016

For this position, I was in charge of the administrative work for four commercial buildings in Toronto’s downtown core. This included acting as these properties’ accounts receivable and payable, addressing tenants’ concerns, and working within teams of some of the most wonderful administrators and maintenance people you could ever meet. I also wrote four entire tenant manuals explaining the ins-and-outs of property regulations and procedures.

I fell into this job when I wasn’t sure where my life was going. Honestly, I thought I would hate commercial real estate, but this role ended up offering me countless challenging and enriching opportunities. In this role, I learned that I can find happiness in the most unexpected places.
